Born in Germany, and immigrating to the United States as a young child. Holger Paetau’s love of wood started with his father who was trained as a cabinet maker. He did not teach Holger how to work with wood, but ingrained the high quality of craftsmanship required to do fine woodworking.
Wood turning has allowed Holger to combine his artistic visions, mathematical mindset, and pure joy of working with wood to create his pieces. Segmented wood turning allows Holger to incorporate his own creative style while bringing the natural beauty of the wood to the forefront. The majority of work is done with all-natural colored woods. Recycled materials from discarded objects are used whenever possible to reduce environmental impact.
Holger has won numerous awards at juried wood-turning competitions. Most recently 1st Place in the Polychromatic Woodturning category at the 2024 Orange County Fair.
