First Friday's to begin next week! Come Meet our amazing Artists & Artisans!

Local Artisan, Marcelle, began "throwing" clay while in High School in upstate New York, where her teacher noticed a particular talent for working the clay very thin and recommended that she try Porcelain...The rest, as they say...is history.  Marcelle moved to Califorina in 1989 and became well known for her unique Porcelain designs and intricate patterns in the glazes.  In 1992 she added Sterling Silver jewelry design to her repertoire, where she incorporates fine wire skills with vintage beads to create wearable works of art.  She showed her works at the Sawdust Summer & Winter Festivals in Laguna Beach for several years, yet now focuses on her new studio in Newport Beach.  Marcelle purchased a vacation home in Crestline in 2005 and was added as a featured "local artisan" at The Lake House that same year.  Marcelle's infectious laugh and high energy brings joy to any art show.  So, come experience for yourself, Marcelle's "artsy" vibe and her beautiful works of art on May 6th!

About Linda Brown:

Essentially a self taught artist, Linda has been painting most of her life.   In a style described as “painterly realism”,  she seeks to capture the feeling of a place beyond the obvious details.  Her paintings emphasize the effects of light and atmosphere,  and celebrate all the varied colors and textures found in nature.  Her favorite subjects are the  landscapes of the Western U.S., especially the mountains and deserts of California.

About Jan Schmuckal:

Jan Schmuckal

A native of St. Charles, Illinois, Jan Schmuckal was the kind of kid always doing some sort of art project, thanks to her very indulgent parents! She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1986 with a degree in Industrial Design, and spent the following years as a designer in the Point-of-Purchase industry. After many years as a designer, she made a career shift to the fine arts. Jan is primarily a painter, although she does dabble in sculpture, keeps her hand in the design world, and owns an art gallery in Geneva Illinois, called Gallery 28. Her style is a contemporary take on Tonalism, which was a painting style developed in the United States during the time the Impressionists were painting in France. Jan has developed her own technique, using Tonalism as a basis. She primarily focuses on the dramatic play of light and shadow that occurs in nature; scenic vignette landscapes that are familiar to the viewer in a visceral way, which may or may not be an actual place, but are reminiscent of places and times  in our own lives and memories.

What Jan says about her Art… "The changing light of day and the moods it evokes are the foundation of all my oil paintings. Each piece usually starts with a powerful, simple composition, which then evolves into a theme in which strong light and shadow and deep color are within the primary subject. Strength, mood and simplicity are my primary intentions."

Jan has sold paintings all over the US and abroad. Who collects Jan’s work?  Both corporations and people from all walks of life and across the country have bought Jan’s work, from hedge fund managers, Hollywood producers, Senators, Professors, Doctors, Attorneys, Teachers, Designers, Musicians, Secretaries, Professional Artists, to Receptionists, Scientists, Farmers, Engineers, Waitresses, National Park directors, Cruise Line owners, CEO’s, CFO’s and the list goes on....

She is the co-owner of Gallery 28 Fine & Functional Art in Geneva at 28 N 4th St. & on the web at www.gallery28.net
